(Loving One Another)

The Goal of Discipleship

John 13:34

Prepared by :  Pastor BUTCH BELGICA, M. Div., D. Min.

A New Commandment

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.   By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

To those whom Jesus called, this new commandment is given!  A new command for the new covenant!

Edifying the Body,
Not Building the Ministry

Ephes. 4:16   From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.   Covenant is based on Love and, begins with Trust.

The Need:   Covenant Relationship Begins With Discipleship

A disciple Trust: first God, the Holy Spirit and His Word, and then the Church, Her ministers and members. The kind of Trust that leads us to:  Love God (with all our hearts) and to love our neighbors (as ourselves), and Submit to delegated authorities and to one another.

Love in Jesus, the Word of God

Love: 1 Cor. 13:6-7 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth ("thy Word is Truth"); [7] Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things (in and through Christ all things are possible).

Discipleship begins with Submission and Obedience to God (His law-word, or commandments) which must lead to the commitment to Love God with all your heart, mind and strength; and to Love one another.

The Real Body "Membership"

Building a Trusting Community of Faith with:

Time (to help, to learn and to teach)

    Talent (skills, and God-given gifts)

    Treasure (money and possessions)

While (Ephes. 4:3) Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

An Interconnected Body of Believers

What is Alive must be organically connected!  John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.   Every branch is connected to the Vine!  What is Alive must Grow!

The Meaning of Life: Relationships

John 17:22-24 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: A network of committed (covenantal) relationships among Christians which stems from the relationship between God, the Father, with the Son, Jesus Christ!

Relationship-Fellowship: As a Witness to the World

[23] I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Fellowship in Prayer, in the Word, and Evangelism is the Goal of Discipleship.   This result in Unity, Harmony, and Love-relationship with one another.

The First Relationship

[24] Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. The meaning of the existence of the Universe stems from that preexistent love-relationship of God and Jesus bonded by the Holy Spirit.

Covenant Relationships: Outworking of God’s Love

1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

[8] He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

God is the Lover of Jesus, the Beloved, and the Holy Spirit the Bond of Love, through which we are made one!

Covenant and Loving one Another

Agape: the trancendental Love. God the source of the highest kind of Love!

The Philadelphian Love: Submission to Authority and to one another. Hierarchy.

Unconditional Love of Christ.

Love Chastens, Disciplines. Sanctional

Consistent and persistent Love that Endures. Continuity
